ABSTRACT
The “ES-J method” is a technology to construct the divergence portion with a road tunnel without any work from the ground surface, where the main tunnel and the rampway tunnel are constructed by shield methods. To construct the overlapping portion, the rampway shield machine excavates a part of the main tunnel, and when the shield machine has completely excavated the required portion, the segments of both tunnels are joined.
