ABSTRACT

The infrastructure or civil works in Bangkok city, Thailand are recently designed as the underground utility constructed by means of tunnelling methods. Those are the high voltage underground cable tunnel, waste water treatment project, main water supply tunnel, flood diversion tunnel and Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) subway tunnel. All tunnels are bored by Earth Pressure Balance (EPB) shield. The experiences in construction planning, preventing the unforeseen damage as well as damage assessment were well performed (Teparaksa, 2003). The recent tunneling works such as the second and third phase of flood diversion tunnel or the next stage of MRT subway tunnel, the tunnels will be more complicated and must be crossed underneath the existing tunnel or substructures. The prediction or forecasting the performance of tunneling in terms of surface and subsurface ground movement is really required to verify the risk potential.
