ABSTRACT

Construction of the subway lines of Greater Cairo Metro had lots of challenges. Conventional underground connection methods required ground stabilization or mechanical protection to control ground collapse and groundwater inflow during galleries construction. The purpose of our calculation is to analyze the variation of the forces in the lining, close to the annex structure during the various construction stages of connection with the shafts. We have selected the section of the tunnel presenting the largest normal forces within the project adjacent to an annex structure.
