Predicting the mechanical behavior of the engineering structures like tunnels, large caverns and dams with sufficient accuracy is a difficult task. This is simply due to the fact that there are many uncertainties involved in the input data for the numerical analysis. Thus, the actual behavior of the structures offer differs from those predicted (Sakurai, 1997).
