ABSTRACT

São Paulo is the Latin America biggest city and there are more than 17 million inhabitants. São Paulo represents 18% of the Brazilian GDP and it is the most important the financial center not only in Brazil but also in Latin America. The metropolis is served by a well managed and efficient subway system which needs immediate expansion. Currently the São Paulo Subway carries approximately 486 million passengers/ year with a total extension lines of 49,2 kilometers long with 46 stations. Under the PITU’s guidelines (Integrated Program of the Urban Transport), of the São Paulo State Government, the subway system is being expanded and the construction of the new line 4 (yellow) is an important stage in this program, improving the life quality of passengers that use of the public transport in São Paulo.
