ABSTRACT

There has been a rapid uptake of the AFM technique to characterize particles such as lactose (Sindel et al. 2001) and silica aerogels (Stark et al. 1998; Weth et al. 2001). In particular, Jones et al. (2003, 2004) have recently attempted to correlate AFM pulloff force measurements with bulk flow properties of model glass ballotini systems as well as industrial powders such as limestone and titania.
