ABSTRACT

In our experiments, globally averaged values are determined by weighing. (Gamma-ray densimetry enabled us local measurements and homogeneity checks, being constant with an error around 1% its mean value.) We checked for reproducibility and determined influence of control parameters for glass beads and reference sands (see Sec. 4). In the course of the pluviation process, one may observe that grains keep moving within a thin layer near the free surface – called “energetic layer” by Cresswell et al. (1999) – as they are disturbed by the impact of newly deposited ones, and then come to rest once they are buried deeper in the bulk of the sample.
