ABSTRACT

Only the migrating barchan dune was found to change its granulometric sand type from “young dune

sand” to “active crest sand” and even further to another sand type called “old barchan sand” (6) with the main bulk in the fraction 250-500 µm. This happens because during migration the whole sand body is shifting (not only surface sands as in other dune types), losing continually small grains from the brink.
