ABSTRACT
ABSTRACT: Substantial reserves of petroleum hydrocarbons exist offshore in the Beaufort Sea in the Canadian Arctic. Exploration of these resources involved the construction of artificial islands in water depths as great as 40 m. The foundation conditions consisted of extensive deposits of soft to stiff clays with an interesting geology and stress history that presented significant geotechnical design challenges.
