ABSTRACT

The development of a new man and a new relationship with machines and technology requires that we develop a new form of personalism in order to protect the dignity and well-being of all persons in the coming age. In this chapter I review some key ideas of a number of classical or previous personalisms with a view to identifying those ideas we can use to build a new eschatological form of personalism—a personalism capable of meeting the challenge of the rise of intelligent machines. The aim is to develop a provisional conception of key concepts in personalism as well as key characteristics of personhood as these will need to be building blocks of an eschatological form of personalism. To pursue key ideas I will not proceed chronologically but instead follow the ideas themselves.
