ABSTRACT

This chapter argues why one positively should expect introspection to be a good basis for anthropic artificial intelligence. If information useful for human skill acquisition is in the introspective text, then: Introspection is neither noise nor nonsense, and introspection is a plausible source of information about the skill under discussion. The chapter discusses a specific, rather common type of education – the conscious teaching and learning of skills. The success human cultures have in transferring their mental skills from one generation to the next is testimony that introspection is neither noise nor nonsense but is sufficiently useful to allow the new generation to acquire the skills that are characteristic of that culture. When acting and communicating, humans assume a certain role, usually depending on the social context. In technology, the everyday human way of doing something is a good first stab at how to accomplish the task at hand.
