ABSTRACT

Eugene Gendlin believed that every dream brings some form of ‘help’ that contains within in it the energy to propel the dreamer’s life forward. Gendlin developed focusing, an embodied, experiential technique that can be applied to dreams. Finding and aligning with the helpful forces in a dream allows the dreamer to feel more secure, more resourced, more able to move forward into the challenging terrain that may lie ahead. This chapter offers clinical examples, including an extended case study that covers the client’s progress over many sessions and illustrates the process and the value of find ‘help’ in dreams.
