ABSTRACT

The concept of Building Information Modelling (BIM) is increasingly adopted as a means of gathering digital and semantic building information across the life-cycle of constructions. The present work aims at assessing the structural resilience of the existing building stock in face of earthquakes and seismically triggered geo-environmental hazards. For this purpose, an inclusive methodology is proposed in this paper to perform structural analysis on existing buildings relying on the interoperability between Autodesk Revit and Robot Structural Analysis. Case study applications consist in two Reinforced Concrete (RC) frame structures in the Old Beichuan County (China), respectively, i.e., a residential building and a Hotel reception which were damaged by the 2008 Wenchuan Earthquake. Both structures have been architecturally characterized in Revit, followed by a modal analysis on the residential building in Robot.
