ABSTRACT

Virtually all of the respondents to the Authoritarian Wound Questionnaire reported as one consequence of authoritarian wounding a heightened sense of anxiety. A key anxiety-management strategy is identifying changes that authoritarians would like to make to their personality and then making them. The simplest – and a quite powerful – anxiety management technique is deep breathing. The most useful and powerful antianxiety strategy are: noticing what authoritarians are saying to themselves; disputing the self-talk that makes authoritarians anxious or does not serve authoritarians; and substituting more affirmative, positive or useful self-talk. Authoritarian can deal with mild anxiety without having to stop everything and without making anxiety management a daily priority. Most people are made anxious thinking about anxiety! This dynamic prevents them from analyzing their situation and coming to smart conclusions about what triggers their anxiety and what anxiety-management tools they might want to employ to reduce their experience of anxiety.
