ABSTRACT
Before briefly summarizing the chapters of this part of the book dealing with the concept of truth in relation to religious diversity and pluralism, this introduction explains in broad strokes what the realism issue – especially regarding the applicability of the concept of truth – is all about, both generally and in the context of religion and theology in particular. One of the main issues (to be raised in a variety of different ways in the chapters that follow) is whether a realist understanding of religious truth entails an exclusivist view in the religious diversity debate. It also needs to be examined to what extent the propositional notion of truth is sufficient for dealing with religious and other worldviews having an “existential” dimension.
