ABSTRACT

This research is a preliminary study to explore the problems and needs of older adults using smart phones in education and entertainment. A total of 35 valid questionnaires were collected. There were 16 males (46%) and 19 females (54%), aged 65–69 (31%), followed by 60–64 years (26%). The results of this study can be summarized as follows: 1) the use problems of older adults using smartphones in education are the function of mobile software/applications is unclear (57%), the operation is too complicated (49%), and the learning information is too much (40%). 2) the needs of older adults using smartphones in education are to provide the knowledge-related software (such as health and wellness) (74%), and reduce conflicts with young people (74%). 3) The needs in entertainment are to provide an app for the elderly and children (57%), to be able to operate the app directly with voice (54%), and to be able to build emotional entertainment with young people (40%). Based on the above findings, this study proposes two major recommendations: (1) Develop appropriate service systems or policies based on the learning needs of older people regarding physical care and wellness diets to prevent disease occurrence. (2) Pay attention to the communication methods between old people and young people.
