ABSTRACT

This paper focuses on e-Sports (electronic Sports) as a research topic, using TA van Dijk news discourse as the analysis framework to analyze the reports and comments in the newspapers from the CNKI database in order to discuss how the Chinese newspapers present the configuration and the construction of e-Sports. It was found that the way of reporting e-Sports follows the viewpoints cyber games have constructed. The viewpoints, regarding e-Sports as a cyber-game and presented by the media-meditated communication, are socially accepted. Through the presentation of the viewpoints, the model of the coverage about e-Sport is constituted. E-Sports have gained government support, but because of its technological nature, the media constructs an image that e-Sports is an information technology industry.
