ABSTRACT

Thermal imaging is a remote sensing procedure for recording infrared radiation from an object. It is therefore necessary to carry out all available checks on the imaging system and the applied technique in order to reduce variations as far as possible. In the majority of clinical applications, it is useful to know how to retrieve temperature data from the image. The image itself expresses the temperature distribution of the target in two dimensions. An important factor in thermal imaging is that many camera systems have a period after switching on the power, when they are not fully stabilized. All images created by use of electronic sensors are expected to be even in terms of temperature sensitivity and of focus. Infrared cameras are commonly supplied and used with a photographic tripod. For the purposes of standardization, this is rarely satisfactory.
