ABSTRACT

One perilous flaw of using a single weighted metric to make a decision is that it usually only factors in parameters stemming from that particular idea or decision itself. Perhaps worse, decisions based on a single metric can inadvertently impinge on the protective capacity required to avoid chaotic operations and its cascade of negative symptoms. Thus, the same decision could yield an excellent outcome in one case and produce a devastating loss under different circumstances. Changes in Operating Expenses resulting from the decision at hand should always be due to penetration into the protective capacity of one or more resources, thus requiring a quick increase in these capacities. Making mutual decisions with a fully cross-functional team that considers likely low and high extreme outcomes provides the managers time to prepare for any reasonable scenario. The mutual decisions of management can be easily documented so that even relatively extreme results are, to a certain degree, expected and well understood.
