The central presupposition of this book is that psychoanalysis has constituted itself as a research programme from its beginnings in Freud’s early work, and as such has, during its history, achieved a remarkable development of theories, clinical techniques, and applications. These make up one of the most substantial paradigms of knowledge to have been created in the human sciences during the last 100 or more years.
