ABSTRACT
The Cherokee Indians, perhaps more than any single tribe, illustrate the extent of American duplicity and hypocrisy of its Indian Policy. Despite the marked transformation from their aboriginal ways to adopting the Euro-American social structure, they were forcefully removed from their traditional lands to Indian Territory and later punished further during the Reconstruction era following the U.S. Civil War.
