ABSTRACT

Sigmund eud, in his book, states that ‘lay’ means ‘not practiced by doctors’. At the time of the publication, there was a practical reason for the question as to whether non-doctors were allowed to treat people through psychoanalysis, or not – avoiding damage to patients. The history of psychoanalysis has several examples of non-doctor and non-psychologist analysts who contributed remarkably to the expansion of the psychoanalytic movement and the development of this discipline. The professionals attributed to themselves the prerogative of the treatment of neurotics, supported by the idea of denouncing charlatanism and protecting people who sought the help of psychoanalysis. After the clinical development, the collaboration of new authors and the improvement of the psycho-analytical technique, psychoanalysis advanced in the field of psychoses, narcissistic structures and other severe pathologies. Medical training can alienate a person from the understanding of psychic phenomena.
