ABSTRACT

Building on the InDesign fundamentals presented in the previous chapter, this chapter provides an overview of layers, then moves on to working with text; specifically, threading text across multiple text frames and then wrapping text around an object. These techniques are put to work in Exercise 15.1 . Next, the concept of master pages is introduced along with its ability to provide consistency across a document. The processes of adding page numbers, text variables and special characters to a document are included in this discussion. Exercise 15.2 utilizes these ideas along with jump pages to facilitate navigation through a multipage document. Bulleted and numbered lists are included in the second exercise. Related “Need to Know Fundamentals” follow each exercise to expand the discussion and use of InDesign tools and processes, including inset and offset spacing, align options and applying attributes across frames. The chapter concludes with a discussion question based on consistency across multipage documents. An end-of-chapter activity involves creating a product advertisement.
