ABSTRACT

Crude oil once produced and separated undergoes treatment in the chronological order covered in Chapters 8 through 10. These treatment processes are a must in order to have a quality product oil. In this chapter, a different avenue in the treatment process of crude oil is considered. The following criteria are some typical cases that handle crude oil treatment:

• To treat the crude oil to upgrade its quality, shooting for market value added (MVA)

• To treat the crude oil to enhance its quality, aiming for a higher sales value added (SVA)

• Treatment under special conditions

Treatment of crude oil-gas mixture was carried out as we have seen following the traditional procedure usually adopted in field processing. However, crude oil may require treatment as demonstrated in the following cases:

• Case 1: Economic treatment for market value added (MVA) • Case 2: Economic treatment for sales value added (SVA) • Case 3: Treatment under special conditions

When we talk about the economic treatment of crude oil in the field, one should be aware of the total costs and expenses incurred in producing the oil and how they are calculated, as was explained in Chapter 5.
