ABSTRACT

This chapter provides insights into K-12 integrated STEM education approaches and inform teacher education programs and future research directions that aim to improve STEM teaching and learning. Effective STEM education approaches involve the integration of STEM disciplines to support the conceptual understandings and the development of 21st-century skills. Preparing teachers with knowledge and skills needed to incorporate the content and develop abilities aligned with the goals of integrated STEM education is a critical step in advancing STEM education. In addition, advancing STEM education cannot be accomplished without systematic research and evaluation of programs and practices.
