ABSTRACT

BIM technology is increasingly frequently appearing on the industry market in publications, legislation and construction projects. One of the elements of this methodology is assigning a level of detail to BIM models. British Levels of Definition (LOD) are an example of this. Determining the details of elements in a design documentation is important for construction project participants. A developer who defines the expected LOD early on can prevent future disappointment. A lower level of detail at the beginning of the design process contributes to a greater motivation of the designer to introduce changes according to a developer’s expectations. A greater level of detail at the design execution stage and clash detection help to prevent changes at the construction site. This article analyses Levels of Detail (LOD) at different stages of the real estate development process, including the impact of other factors.
