ABSTRACT

This paper is focused on the sway buckling influence in portal frames with laced built-up members. For frames sensitive to buckling in a sway mode the second order effects with initial sway imperfection should be taken into account in analysis. In portal frames with the laced compression columns under sway imperfection the second order effects cause additional axial forces in chords. A parametric study was performed to assess these additional chord forces. A simplified method, which was proposed and verified in previous papers, was used here to produce results for profiles with various shapes and dimensions.
