ABSTRACT

In the Czech Republic a significant proportion of population lives in small municipalities. The technical equipment of these small municipalities does not differ fundamentally from the average amenities of the cities and large housing stock. One of the basic conditions is enough drinking water, including sanitary households needs. The supply of drinking water in small municipalities is provided by local waterworks and individual wells. Because of aquatic ecosystems’ vulnerability, water systems, natural influences and extraordinary anthropogenic events, the article describes these types of threats. It points out what risks can arise and how they can be eliminated at an acceptable and economically manageable level.
