ABSTRACT

Children can have severe problems in daily life but they do not have to form a barrier for them to talk about their memories. Only when these problems do form a barrier are interventions needed to create good enough stability. Compensation plans can be made for the child, caregivers or school to manage a possible temporary increase in symptoms during trauma processing. Interventions such as the Safe Deposit Box, the Here and Now can help the child manage flashbacks and sleeping problems. Drugs and alcohol use needs to be managed well enough to make sure the child can process the traumatic memories without overdosing. In the integration phase the interventions can improve daily life functioning further so the child can grow up safe and healthy.
