ABSTRACT
There are many qualities of outstanding teachers – engaging, energetic, intelligent, caring, etc. But one that has to be a part of being a difference-maker is being kind. If in doubt, be kind to others. Our students deserve it and our colleagues desire it. When people do not provide this to us it is doubly difficult to dig deep and be kind to them, but that is part of what being a good teacher and a great person is. We all come across way too many students and adults who do not seem to treat others with kindness. And we all come across way too many people who do not treat us with kindness. However, if we do not provide it to them, for many people it is very difficult for them to ever take this approach themselves.
