ABSTRACT

Chapter 9 explores the manner in which Korea’s public commitment in 2014 to build a nationwide public safety (PS-LTE) network converged with a similar announced goal to build a nationwide 5G mobile network. Both of these networks, when completed, are likely to be the first such nationwide networks in the world. The chapter explores the relationship between public safety and commercial 5G networks, along with the services they offer and the training that first responders, government policymakers, corporate executives, NGOs and citizens will need to effectively use the new networks.
