ABSTRACT

This chapter presents the role of trust and intuition in management. It discusses the conceptual background of trust and intuition. The chapter presents recommendations for future research. Trust and intuition have increasingly fascinated researchers. Trust and intuition are important in responses to crises in an increasingly uncertain and changing world. Trust has emerged as a central construct in a wide range of management studies, including those focusing on performance. People often rely on intuition, which is the psychological function that allows knowing to occur by means of transmitting perceptions in an unconscious way. Philosophers often conceive of intuition as competence. In management, intuition has been posited to help guide a wide range of critical decisions. Researchers have noticed that when employees have trust in the top management, their organizational commitment and organizational identity improve and they work harder and spend more time and energy completing their job functions.
