ABSTRACT

This chapter suggests that Ms. Marvel offers a realistic representation of cultural diversity amongst its strong Muslim female characters, and their relationship with each other. It argues that Kamala Khan’s version of Ms. Marvel is a direct product of her connection with the strong Muslim feminists in her life and her different identities. The chapter argues that Ms. Marvel illustrates different sorts of transformation throughout its narrative, which authenticates the liminal, hybrid identities of its Muslim female characters and makes them relatable. The beauty of Ms. Marvel lies in its diversified representation of average Muslim women in America. Ms. Marvel connects with its audience on a metalevel, via the authentic representation of the daily life of diverse American immigrants, who are students, geeks, come from religious families, and deal with complex cultural intricacies. Ms. Marvel’s personality and actions are a response to the people in her life and are a reflection of their influence on her.
