ABSTRACT

I believed I had memories of the operation in the first few days following it. I would drift in and out of consciousness and hear and smell things that I believed were real memories. I thought I remembered the gurgling of digestion (probably my own tummy or other patients’ in the beds around me) and saw in my mind’s eye these massive grey pipes, a view inside my own body as I thought at the time. I saw myself on a huge table in the middle of the bay, being operated on and being asked if I wanted a male or female brain.
