ABSTRACT

The chapter devoted to Pachucas starts with an account of the sociohistorical situation of women in the United States in the Forties. It describes the reality of US women during World War II, and that of women of Mexican origin in particular. It continues with a description of the feminine fashion of the period. Finally, it places the Pachuca women in the context of the zoot suit/Pachuco collective, paying special attention to the riots that occurred between the Pachucos and white marines in 1943. The chapter provides a description of the rebellious outfit of these women as well as of its moral and social implications.
