ABSTRACT
About the year 1826, Samuel Low went from Easton, in Maryland, to Philadelphia, in search of a fugitive slave. After arriving there, and procuring the requisite authority, he arrested a man and took him to the office of Abraham Shoemaker, one of the Aldermen of that city. The magistrate had gone to his dinner, and had left the front door of his office open, but both the inner doors were shut and locked. They put the man in the entry, and S. Low and his company were on the step guarding him.
