ABSTRACT

Charles Webster was a slave to Benjamin Orr, a gambler, in Virginia. Becoming involved in debt, Orr sold him to a person, whom I shall call A.B.; I have forgotten his name, but I remember he was considered wealthy and respectable. About the year 1797, A.B. went to Philadelphia to spend the winter, and took his wife and daughters with him, to enjoy the company and amusements of the city. Charles was their coachman and waiter. They took lodgings in Fourth street, at the Indian Queen; and Inn well known to almost every body in Philadelphia.
