ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the author considers what can be achieved from Single-Session Therapy (SST). There is a concept in psychology known as quantum change which shows that meaningful change can occur in a concise period both inside and outside psychotherapy. People often come to therapy with the hidden agenda of changing someone with whom they have difficulty. Helping a client to get unstuck is a viable goal in SST. The foundation of the author own SST practice is Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy. Sometimes a client comes to therapy with the goal of bringing about change in a troublesome set of circumstances or accepting these circumstances. An alternative that should be discussed with the client is to leave the circumstance when it is clear that the person has already made numerous attempts to change it and to accept it.
