ABSTRACT

Elegba and Eshu are translated Devil. In the form of an earthenware pot with a hole in it, Eshu is represented in many villages. In some form or other under a small shed, Eshu is found at the entrance of a town or house. Whatever Orishas the people may have, Eshu appears to be the most widespread (see At the Back of the Black Man’s Mind, pages 197, 190, 221, 223, 234, 246, 265).
