ABSTRACT

Commercial organizations, which perhaps make the most important contribution to the leisure of most people. There are many services and organizations which cater for young people which are not ‘youth service’ in the commonly accepted sense of that term. Young Farmers’ Clubs provide a useful illustration of what is possible. It is possible to have a youth organization and with an extended age range. In membership the Y.F.C. movement is different from many other youth organizations. In 1947 the organization persuaded the Carnegie Trust to make a second grant and this allowed for the appointment of a paid organizer for the Manchester area for a period of three years. As a result of this appointment a large number of groups were formed in the north-west region. The existence of Eighteen Plus raises the question of how many people in towns and cities all over the country are looking for a social organization of some kind.
