ABSTRACT

The primary goal of the Portal to the Public program is to help informal science educators (ISE) work with scientists using a variety of professional development experiences to prepare the scientists to communicate effectively with public audiences at ISE venues. Integrated within the professional development experiences are points of active reflection. These include activities which enable the scientist to recollect memorable learning moments in their own lives, prototyping events where scientists gather meaningful feedback, and post-event reflection with the ISE partner. This chapter is useful for ISE practitioners who are interested in preparing experts to have meaningful interactions with public audiences.
