ABSTRACT

This chapter outlines some of the key ways in which the Living Systems Framework (LSF) has been and might be heuristically useful for those who study humans or provide services to them, or for those who simply want to better understand people and their behavior. A larger, integrative framework can cast such arguments in a different light. A central purpose of the Living Systems Framework is to help people find this common ground on which they can share in the adventures of understanding and improving the human condition. The term framework rather than theory has been intentionally used to connote the current limtiations of the LSF. Perhaps a “room” should be added or reshaped within the structure. Some may even judge it to be such a poorly designed framework that it can never be adequately finished and furnished to make a “livable, functional home” for people trying to understand human functioning and development.
