ABSTRACT

This chapter considers a variety of miscellaneous topics listed: (1) intelligence, (2) emotional intelligence, (3) focus, (4) artificial intelligence, (5) Watson (The Computer), (6) Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), (7) Gedanken experiments, (8) patterns of thinking, (9) Gelb perspectives, and (10) search processes. The first four items, having to do with intelligence, briefly explore the relationship between thinking and various types of intelligence. The notion of focus is set forth by Goleman, revealing the significance of this skill and its effect on thinking. The successes of Watson the computer raise the question as to whether or not that computer is “thinking.” The DARPA discussion explores some work being done at that agency with respect to data-driven algorithms and discoveries. The Gelb citation examines some seven principles of da Vinci, and the chapter closes with search processes as problems to be solved.
