chapter  8
Writing Memories Down Without Discussing Them May Facilitate Understanding
WithArnold R. Bruhn
Pages 5

After doing memories work on myself, I realized that writing memories down facilitated a reflective meditation that was very helpful to me. When I combined writing memories down with a standard dialog, I gained even more. I would ask myself after finishing a memory: “What was that about? How did that experience affect you then? And now?” With new clients I stated I would talk with them about their EMPs the next session and promised that this information would help me get to know them faster. Sometimes the EMP reveals a troublesome relationship that is presenting a major problem for the client—a mother, father, romantic partner, or spouse. As appropriate, a supplemental autobiographical memory procedure can be used to explore the basis for the problem.
