chapter  2
Unsaturated soil mechanics applied to road materials
ByBernardo Caicedo
Pages 70

Practitioners of road engineering have recognized that good drainage is a fundamental requirement for good performance of the upper layers of road structures because it reduces water content and the degree of saturation of the layered materials that form those structures. Although this point was recognized at a very early stage of road engineering, an understanding of the fundamental role of water has only recently become possible through advances in unsaturated soil mechanics.
