ABSTRACT

Ameto’s song ended, and the sun with his horses rushed toward the waters of Spain. Then as the burning hours decline, the night arises out of Ganges to enclose the world; yet the entreated nymph does not come to the customary spot. As a result, when Ameto sees the stars already in the sky, he curses his laziness and goes sadly homeward with his dogs, hoping that Fortune, in the following days, might be less mean to him than she has been.
