ABSTRACT

Drawing on empirical evidence, Chapter 5 explores the nature of interaction and interface between the Adivasis and Bengali migrants in political sphere. It traces the process through which Bengali migrants have emerged as a political community. It examines whether the native Adivasis have been politically marginalised with the emergence of Bengali migrants as a political community and whether that has led to the emergence of contestations and conflicts between them. It engages with different pertinent issues through which political contestations are conceived, mounted and contained.
