ABSTRACT

In this chapter the delivery of inclusive physical education is presented through a historical lens, and also in response to government policies and global trends. Within the Australian school system different models have evolved, ranging from specialized separate programmes to full inclusion. It is conceded that there are ongoing challenges to ensuring inclusion for students with disability in school physical education programmes and sporting clubs. However, with a clear understanding of barriers to inclusion, workable strategies that ensure students with disability can access and participate in inclusive physical education and activities on the same basis as students without disability are examined.
