ABSTRACT

Therapeutic/counselling/coaching practices include many different language tools. In this chapter the Miracle Question, the Best Hopes Question and the Mind-Activating Question, representative of three modalities of Solution Focused practice, are described, compared, and discussed. While the differences among them may be obvious, their similarities often remain hidden and unnoticed. The authors claim that although seemingly quite different, these questions in fact explore one and the same theme: What do clients want to see happen in their lives? Being variations on this primary theme, they differ only in their time scope. Often perceived as alternative to one another, they are much more complementary than usually perceived.
