ABSTRACT

Today, countries devote their policies to the recognition not only of the technical capabilities of the military, but of its human resources: women and men who have chosen to serve their country. However, there are other actors whose role is still neglected: military wives who provide the Army with “a free service” by creating the military as a family and by doing emotion labor (Hochschild, 1983). The purpose of this chapter is to question the status of military wives to understand to what extent they contribute to the evolution of the military profession.
